BRADFORD Bulls’ interim head coach Lee Greenwood admits Jorge Taufua is ready if called upon this weekend, with the experienced winger in line for a dramatic return against York.
The winger could feature in their Betfred Championship eliminator play-off at Odsal on Sunday, with his six-game ban for an alleged bite against Barrow finally over.
But with no match action for him since Bulls’ win at Batley in early August, would it be too big a risk to throw the former Wakefield Trinity man back in?
Interim head coach Lee Greenwood said: “We’ll need to weigh it all up with Jorge.
“There’s likely to be enforced changes and part of our decision is about who goes where.
“We wanted to make the play-offs so we could have Jorge back and that mindset hasn’t changed.
“He’s trained hard and is raring to go if called upon, but Liam Tindall did well on the wing against London and Sheffield, Ben Blackmore has been good out there all season and Dee Foggin-Johnston is fit and firing too, so we do have options in that position.”
Taufua’s lengthy ban has been one of many setbacks Bulls have suffered during the run-in, with most injury-related, like during the wins over London and Sheffield over the last two weeks.
Greenwood said: “You just have to deal with them.
“Medical teams are more knowledgeable than they used to be, so if players are told they have to come off, we have to adapt and adjust.
“There’s no better example of that than York, who had so many players out in the first half of the year.
“They’ve got bodies back now, players who are committed to a plan and they’re probably surprised to have made the top six.
“It’s the opposite for us, as it feels like we’re losing one or two players each week now, but I’m very confident in whoever the 17 is we put out.”
