BRADFORD Bulls star Kieran Gill has lauded his fellow centre Jayden Myers, admitting the youngster has progressed massively over the last few months.
Myers scored twice in the vital 12-10 win at London Broncos last time out and is one several players to be sharing the try-scoring burden this year.
And with the usually prolific Gill still in good form but only crossing the whitewash once in his last seven appearances, that team effort has pleased him.
That was what was needed from all 17 men in that gutsy win in the capital, which means Bulls have already booked their Betfred Championship play-off place heading into the regular season finale at Sheffield on Sunday.
Myers stole the show in an attacking sense with his brace, and Gill said: “Jayden’s progressed massively.
“He had a really good pre-season, got his chances initially and then he’d gone a bit under the radar.
“But he’s got his opportunity again now and is showing his potential. He’s starting games more and he’ll only keep progressing.
“He’s always wanting advice off us older guys too and with the potential he’s got, it was great for the club to secure a new deal for him, as he’s a good player for Bulls’ future.”
Gill signed a new three-year deal in the summer himself, and says the club is now “like a second home” to him.
He has formed a real bond with the club staff, has a job with one of Bulls’ sponsors and is popular among the fans and his teammates.
And the latter are popular with him right now, with a rare barren try-scoring run for Gill having little impact as others take the headlines.
He said: “I always say it’s about the team and not just me.
“As long as we keep winning and push on with these play-offs coming, I’m just happy doing my bits well in defence and attack.
“I’ll still make sure I try and take chances when they come my way, but I’m grateful for having those 12 players alongside me on the pitch at all times.”
And the team against Sheffield on Sunday will be giving it their all, despite York’s win over Batley on Monday confirming a play-off place for Bulls.
He said: “Nothing changes, we’re 100 per cent focused.
“We’ve been in the mindset of wanting to finish in the top four all year and we know we’ll be in the top three if we beat Sheffield.
“We want to do that to have a play-off at Odsal with all our fans down there.
“There were a few messages between the lads after the Batley game, but we said even if they’d won, we’ve always wanted to secure our goal by ourselves, not having to rely on others.
“We want to be on top form at Sheffield and show what we’re capable of.”
Gill added: “I watched the Batley and York game at home, and it just shows the standard of the Championship.
“You often don’t know what will happen until the final whistle, which you saw in our game against London, as well as that one.
“There are so many good teams in the division, and you have to cut out silly errors and ill-discipline to have a chance of winning games.”
