Bulls dug in to ensure a 12-10 win at play-off rivals London Broncos this afternoon, with head coach Lee Greenwood lauding their “never-say-die” attitude.

Knowing a top-six finish was in serious danger if they lost in the capital, Bulls produced some outstanding defending against a side who had won nine of their last 10 league games.

Put to him that the perilous situation may have inspired such a gutsy display, Greenwood said: “You might be right, because maybe earlier in the season you don’t quite get that never say die attitude.

“The players knew the scenario we were in and that we couldn’t lose, ao they may have sensed that.

“Some of the try-line defence, work rate and covering for each other when London got half-breaks or came close to certain tries, it was good to see.”

At the other end, academy product Jayden Myers scored both of the tries that earned victory for Bulls, and Greenwood said: “We’d love a team full of homegrown players, but players need to earn it on merit.

“The better the team perform, the harder it is for those younger lads to get in, but Jayden’s taken his chance.

“He dropped back out with a few things to work on, but now he’s come back in, he’s made that position his own and it’s his to lose.”

Myers did limp off with a possible calf injury after a try-saving tackle, while Bulls will keep an eye on George Flanagan and Billy Jowitt, who may have picked up hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

There was a welcome return from injury for Lee Gaskell and Ben Blackmore, and on the former, Greenwood said: “It was a good battle in the halves, and though they started with a different scenario in there, I thought London had more threat when Oli Leyland came on.

“It all made for an interesting game.

“I thought both sides lost their way at times during the game, but there are quality players in those halves that don’t always play the orthodox option and they see something quicker than others, so it’s trying to get that balance right.

“Lee and Jordan came up with some big plays today, but generally I think was all about our defence and I think that’s why we won it.”
