MARK Hughes urged fans to calm down after City were booed at the end of today’s 1-1 draw with Harrogate at Valley Parade.

Jamie Walker rescued a point for the Bantams with a stoppage-time equaliser but they still came in for flak from some supporters after the final whistle.

“There’s a little bit of frustration at the moment but we’ve just got to remind ourselves that it’s early in the season,” said Hughes.

“We’re only eight games in and we’ve got new players coming in trying to make an impact and we’re reintegrating the guys who have been injured as well.

“It’s not an easy time and people have just got to keep their nerve and relax a bit.

“We’re three points from the play-offs and six or seven from the automatics. That’s the reality of it.”

It was the second week running that City have fought back late on. But they will have wanted more than two draws from consecutive home games.

“I would say the first 45 minutes of the first game was below par,” added Hughes. “Today was okay up to a point but we just didn’t have that cutting edge.

“It’s difficult because personnel aren’t available to us. We haven’t got the option of a Cooky (Andy Cook) or Vadaine Oliver coming on late to change our approach.

“That’s the reality of where we are. We’re hopefully getting people back and Cooky may well be an option next week, so that will help.”

Hughes was pleased with his team’s spirit to claw their way back from falling behind after former City loanee Matt Daly netted at Valley Parade for the second year running.

“You’ve got to show character and it wasn’t easy. We had to keep on going and that’s twice they’ve done that.

“The group want to do well. They want to be a team that affects the opposition.

“It’s just on occasions, you’ve got to give credit to the opposition. If they do a job on you and work exceptionally hard against you, then it makes it difficult to create things.

“The 90 minutes was probably better than the 90 minutes last time out, so we’ll take that.

“We got a point out the game. That’s the least we deserved given how much we dominated possession.”
