LEE Greenwood was full of praise for youngster Jayden Myers after he impressed once again in Bradford’s 42-26 victory at Swinton Lions on Sunday afternoon.
The talented Bulls man collected his fifth try of the season just after half-time - a score that put some clear daylight between the visitors and their hosts - after he powered over on the right edge.
Speaking to the press after their victory, which keeps them in third place in the Betfred Championship, Bulls’ interim boss Greenwood spoke of Myers in glowing terms.
He said: “The younger lads need to play to learn from their mistakes and if you remember a couple of games ago, there were a couple of short kick-offs from restarts that Jayden struggled to deal with, however he's got his positioning better today and taken a couple of the balls down brilliantly.
“From there he's done well. With the ball in hand, he's always a threat and he’s always looking to make good yards.
“We’ve got a quality player on our hands; that's why he's re-signed and that's why he's starting games. I wouldn't even say that it will give Eamon (O’Carroll) a headache when he arrives at the club; it's now Jayden's position to lose at centre.
“Of course, there are a couple of things he can work on, but there are going to be, he's only young. We’ll do our best to help him work on those improvements.”
Despite being pleased for Myers, Greenwood didn't hold back on a handful of individuals for their performances.
He said: “I was disappointed with some of the players around Jayden, I don't think they helped him today. There was a lack of energy, maybe a lack of fitness from the more experienced players around him.”
Greenwood played down the level of inconsistency within his side, saying: “You look at everybody else and nobody is doing it (putting in near perfect performances week in, week out).
“If there were four teams at the top who looked unbeatable and were going out and winning every single week, then it would be difficult to compete against, however, that’s not the case.
“Even the winning teams at the top are not looking convincing with their performances. Toulouse and Featherstone have not been convincing every single week with the way they've played, so nobody has it easy.
“The Championship is one hell of a tough division and I don’t think people appreciate just quite how hard it is. Just because we are Bradford in name, it doesn’t mean that we should come here and batter Swinton. They’re fighting for their lives at the bottom and they’ve beaten some big teams at home this year. They make it very difficult for you and did that today.
“Maybe it was us that made it look comfortable on the scoreboard at points, or uncomfortable for that matter at times. However, I think we’d have taken that points difference at the end.”
Winger Ben Blackmore missed the game after suffering a knock in training, while Bulls have confirmed that Brad England is okay after the car accident he was involved in on Friday led to his absence at Heywood Road too.
