THE BULLS going third in the Championship means nothing for Lee Greenwood.

Sunday’s win over struggling Newcastle coupled with favourable results elsewhere catapulted his side into the prime spot behind front two Featherston and Toulouse.

Halifax lost at London and Batley were surprisingly toppled 26-20 by the relegation-haunted Cougars.

But Greenwood insists nobody is getting carried away with their lofty position.

“It’s that tight from third down to eighth or ninth,” he said. “We won’t get excited because we’re third at the moment because that could change next weekend.

“We can only look at our next game, do what we need to do and then the league table will look after itself.

“It will change so much over the last five weeks because of how tight it is.

“We just want to be in that top six. It’s about getting that cemented as soon as possible.

“You might have individuals who say that someone’s playing so and so and they are checking their phone in the changing room.

“But it’s not something we mention as a group. Once you take your eye off the ball you get beaten.

“On some occasions this year, we’ve done that.

“We’ve looked at what can happen elsewhere or looked further up the track and we’ve lost that particular game.”

The race is on to finish in the top four and book a home tie in the first round of the play-offs.

After next weekend’s trip to Swinton, the Bulls finish the regular campaign with four games against sides in and around them.

Greenwood added: “There will be a lot of twists and turns depending on who’s playing who.

“You looked at the weekend and four of the top eight were playing each other. So naturally if we got a win, we were going to move ahead of somebody anyway.

“Next week, the fixtures are different and then it comes where we play probably the last four games against people who are in the mixer.

“I’d love to say we’re going to win them all, but it would be a fair effort if we did.

“If we do that, then obviously we’re probably going to finish in third at least.

“There’s nothing we can do about the other games because it’s that tight.

“We could sit here celebrating that we’re in third spot but finish eighth at the end of the season and then what was the point?

“We won’t get too excited about being third now. It means absolutely nothing.

“We need to prepare properly for what’s going to be a really tough challenge at Swinton next week.”
