BULLS’ interim head coach Lee Greenwood has confirmed that former NRL hooker James Segeyaro will miss the rest of the season with a “serious knee injury”.
He limped off in Bradford’s last game, a superb win at Batley, after being on the receiving end of a forceful tackle in helping to set up a try.
That could end up being Segeyaro's last act and appearance in Bulls colours, with his current deal only running until the end of the season.
Discussing selection ahead of the home game with Newcastle this Sunday, Greenwood told the T&A: “After the performance we put in against Batley, it’s going to be difficult to get anyone back in the team.
“But a couple of people will have to come in, as we’ve lost Jorge Taufua to his six-game ban and James Segeyaro is out for the rest of the season.
“He suffered a serious knee injury at Batley and that’s him done now for the year, including the play-offs.
“But it does at least create an opportunity for other players.
“Having a week without a game has brought people closer to fitness, but we might be looking further down the line for the likes of Chester Butler and Brad England.
“Chester’s definitely not available for Newcastle, but Brad potentially has a chance as he trained a bit on Tuesday night.
“We’ll see how he is by the weekend, and whether we’ll put him in or not.”
Greenwood also gave his take on Taufua, who was handed a six-game ban by an RFL tribunal on Monday night, which Bulls can appeal if they so wish.
He said: “I’m not sure exactly what was said the other night, as it was (CEO) Jason Hirst there with him not me.
“But I’ve obviously seen the outcome and I felt we were on the back foot because of the referee’s report and the testimony of the Barrow player.
“The tribunal has gone off those, which were damning, but we felt we had to fight Jorge’s case.
“Whoever has made the decision has downgraded the charge from Grade F to Grade E, I don’t know why, but still banned him for six games.
“We as a club are looking at our options, because we don’t agree with the decision.
“But we have to consider whether it’s worth an appeal, and ask ourselves if we feel that’d change the outcome of the ruling.
“It’s something we’ll make a decision on quickly.”
