CONNOR Wynne is determined to put himself in the shop window by seizing his fullback opportunity.
The on-loan Hull FC utility player put his injury frustration behind him with two tries on his first Bulls appearance against Keighley last weekend.
Having understudied impressively for Tom Holmes, Wynne is keen to build on that bright start at Widnes on Monday.
And there is the added incentive of wanting to catch the eye after being told that he will be released by his Super League parent club at the end of the season.
Wynne said: “I want to prove a lot of people wrong and show that I am the player that I was last year. I’ve just had a few little blips in the road through injury.
“Hopefully I’ll start talking to a few teams and see what happens.
“My desire is to be full-time but we’ll see. I can’t thank Bradford enough for the time and effort that they’ve put into me.”
It has been a tough period for Wynne since arriving at Odsal with an injury and he is grateful for the work behind the scenes with head physio Grace Lennox and head of strength and conditioning Kane Daniels.
“I want to give a big shout-out to Grace,” he added. “She’s been fantastic with me doing everything possible to get me fit.
“I’ve been here a while and there have been times when I don’t even want to come training because I’ve been that bothered by the injury.
“But I’ve stuck with it and Nobby (Brian Noble) and Greeny (Lee Greenwood) have had faith in me. They could have easily said, ‘no, we don’t want you and we’ll send you back to Hull.’ “But they’ve put that effort in for me and hopefully I can start to repay that.
“It’s a very talented squad and I won’t go away thinking that spot’s mine because we’ve obviously got Holmesy and Billy Jowitt.
“I’ll keep working on the things that I need to and getting that extra fitness in.”
Interim coach Greenwood felt it was “now or never” throwing in Wynne for his first Championship action after just one reserve outing against London.
Greenwood said: “He’s ticked the first team game off and he’ll be better for that. There’s still plenty of work to do regarding fitness but there’s always been a good player in there.
“I’ve watched him since he came through and he’s a talented player. If we can get his fitness up to speed, then it’s another good addition for us.”
