LEE Greenwood admits Fenton Rogers deserves his chance to shine at Huddersfield Giants, after the Super League side recalled him from his loan at Bulls.
While Bradford have tended to shy away from loan deals since Greenwood and Brian Noble took over, Rogers’ presence at the club all season has meant the prop has remained a valuable part of the set-up.
But the Giants are badly out of form, and may hand the 19-year-old his debut against Wigan tomorrow night.
Greenwood said: “That’s the risk you take of having a player on loan.
“We were meant to have him all season, but a parent club can always call the player back after two weeks or more.
“With the way Huddersfield’s results and performances have been going, they’ve been making those changes.
“With the attitude and effort he’s shown here this season, Fenton deserves his chance in a Huddersfield shirt.”
The situation is made worse by the loss of fellow props Jordan Baldwinson and Josh Johnson, the latter having joined Oldham last night.
Greenwood admitted Baldwinson's knee injury in the Betfred Championship defeat to Toulouse last Saturday is “a bad one that will keep him out for a while”.
Elsewhere, Keven Appo’s arm injury is not expected to rule him out of selection for Sunday’s derby with Keighley, while Billy Jowitt is chomping at the bit to return.
Greenwood said Tom Holmes (knee) is highly unlikely to be back in time to face Cougars, while Bodene Thompson (ankle) will have to be assessed ahead of what is due to be his final appearance for the club.
Brad England could be ruled out for a while after Sunday too, having been sent off for punching in the defeat to Toulouse.
Greenwood conceded: “There’s nothing to appeal there, it was just a red mist moment from Brad.
“He felt something had happened to him, reacted and probably let out a bit of frustration at the performance in doing that.
“We’ll see the length of suspension handed down to him this week, but we’ll have no complaints.”
Greenwood admitted Bulls were their “own worst enemies” during a “way off standard” display in France last Saturday, but he insisted: “I’m not sure about needing to see a reaction.
“We’re getting straight back to it and practicing all week to make sure that was a one-off.
“There was no confidence knocked or anything like that.
“Toulouse counteracted a lot of the good stuff we have been doing in previous weeks, and for some reason we chose not to do certain things that had been working.
“The game ended up being a learning curve for us.”
