FORMER Wales international Jonny Williams is being strongly linked with a move to Valley Parade.

City are poised to unveil their second recruit of the summer in the coming days.

And one national report claims that will be Williams, who is a free agent after leaving Swindon.

The Sun say that the midfielder will sign a three-year deal with City after turning down interest from newly-promoted Northampton, Gillingham, Notts County and Wrexham.

Hibs manager Lee Johnson had also discussed Williams as a potential target to link up with former Swindon striker Harry McKirdy north of the border.

Williams scored the winner against the Bantams at the County Ground in April - inflicting their first away loss in 2023.

Mark Hughes admitted at the time it was a “sucker punch” to concede from a header by a 5ft 5in opponent.

He said: “They restricted us to a lot less and then we got done by a sucker punch. Unfortunately, the smallest player on the pitch has headed it in.

“Maybe because of his stature he wasn’t picked up. We were clearly looking at the big lads who you fear the most and then he’s popped in and they’ve converted and won the game.”

That proved to be the last of the 29-year-old’s 15 goals for Swindon in 84 appearances. He also provided 10 assists and helped the Robins reach the League Two play-offs in his first season.

Williams opted to move on for a fresh opportunity elsewhere at the end of his contract and was not offered a new deal.

He was capped 33 times by Wales and represented his country in two Euros finals and at the World Cup last year.

Williams played his part as the Welsh got to the semi-finals in France in Euro 2016, starting against Slovakia when he won the free-kick that led to Gareth Bale's opening goal in a 2-1 win.

Nicknamed 'Joniesta' by supporters, he announced his international retirement in March.

“To have my name sung by so many Welsh fans meant the world to me and I thank you for everything," he said at the time.
