BULLS admit it is a blessing to have new loan signing Jason Qareqare here for the whole season.

The Castleford back, who can play at full-back or on the wing, has signed in time for Bradford’s huge Betfred Challenge Cup fifth round tie at Halifax tomorrow.

But unlike the Leeds dual-registration crew, and Super League duo Jack Bibby and Rob Butler, Dunning knows he will be able to rely on Qareqare’s presence until the autumn unless the Tigers recall him.

He said: “People have talked to me a lot about consistency lately and that’s what you strive for.

“But you want to have that in your team selection as well as your performances.

“Having Jason here until the end of the season gives us continuity and competition.

“It’s no secret we’ve been thin on outside backs with our injuries, so it’s great for us to get an international winger in of Jason’s calibre.”

Most Castleford fans seem frustrated with new head coach Andy Last’s decision to let Qareqare go for the next six months, with Dunning reflecting: “Everyone connected with Cas knows the ability Jason has, but they have real talent in their outside backs.

“I’ve known Andy for years and get on with him well so I know what Cas want from us with this loan, and what Jason wants to get from this loan.

“At the same time, they know what we want from it. Ultimately it’s about doing the best by Jason.”

Just a few months older than Qareqare, Jayden Myers made his league debut for Bulls at centre in last week’s narrow home defeat to Batley.

Though the experienced Joe Arundel is expected back from injury soon, Myers looks likely to still be in contention to play.

Dunning said: “I’ve been clear on Jayden for a while.

“He had a tremendous pre-season and he earned the right to get a squad number.

“My position on him hasn’t changed since then.

“He played well in the cup against York Acorn and Midlands Hurricanes and we were delighted to give him his league debut last Sunday.”
