MARK Hughes insists City have nothing to fear from their longest trip of the season so far.

The Bantams hit the road again tonight for Gillingham as they look to make it four wins in five games - and three on the bounce away from home.

But the Kent side have been rejuvenated by a prolific transfer window to win six of their last eight outings.

Gillingham are still fourth from bottom seven points clear of the relegation zone but have won four in a row at the Priestfield Stadium.

Hughes said: “They are starting to pick up results and got another good win on Saturday (against Wimbledon).

“It won’t be easy but we’ve just got to go there with the same attitude that we’ve shown against Doncaster.

“If we do that, then we shouldn’t fear anybody in this league.”

City make their first visit to Gillingham since October 2018 - when a 4-0 defeat had new boss David Hopkin threatening to quit on the bus home.

Hughes’ side will travel in far better spirits after the derby joy at Doncaster made it 27 points from 15 away games. That is the third best record in the division.

“It’s not as if we’re not trending in the right direction,” added the City boss, who is again likely to be without former Gills striker Vadaine Oliver.

“We’re in good nick at the moment. A lot of teams are winning like we are but we’ve just got to deal with what we can and see where that takes us.”

City will move back into the play-off spots in sixth with another victory. Stevenage, Northampton and Salford are also on their travels this evening.

Hughes said: “We’re picking up a good amount of points and we’re in a good place. We’re more than comfortable with where we are.

“Other teams will slip up and we’ve just got to do what we have to.

“If we continue in the same vein and continue picking up good points away and at home, then we’ll be very close.”

Gillingham have picked up 13 points from their last six games and sit fifth in the current form table just above the Bantams.

Their last home defeat was on Boxing Day to Colchester before the big-money injection under new American owner Brad Galinson in January.

But City are unbeaten away since losing on the same day at Carlisle and Hughes is confident of extending that run.

“All teams are difficult and will pose different types of questions for you. We’ve just got to find the answers.

“It’s more about what we do. We’ll be fine if we rock up and perform and stand up to the challenge like we did at the weekend.”
