CITY are waiting to discover if they managed to sneak one last deal over the line before the transfer window shut.

The club were frantically working on bringing in a player as the 11pm deadline signalled the end of the January market.

Mark Hughes had already added Sam Stubbs to his squad as well as allowing Levi Sutton to make a permanent switch to Harrogate.

That brought City’s tally for the month to seven recruits and seven departures.

But whether they could squeeze in an eighth arrival will depend on the forms being sorted in time.

It is understood agreement was reached with the player’s club in the final hour of the window. But that left little time for the deal to be hammered together.

City will find out today whether the EFL will sign off on the potential move - or leave them regretting running out of time in the late scramble.

As well as bringing in centre half Stubbs from Exeter, they also tried to sign a Championship player.

But his club, having initially indicated they would look favourably on the deal, then changed their minds and decided he would be staying put.
