MARK Hughes has explained why he was booked in City’s draw at Stockport.

The Bantams boss was the first of three names to be taken by referee Martin Coy last night - his second yellow card of the season.

Hughes was booked in the second half for impeding Kyle Knoyle as the Stockport midfielder tried to steal a few yards taking a throw-in in front of the away dug-out.

Hughes stood in his technical area to block Knoyle’s way before the official came across to book him.

“I was getting a little bit frustrated with the fourth official and referee not telling people to throw from the correct position,” said Hughes.

Pointing to a spot to the left of the technical area, he added: “The throw-in was here and he ended up throwing it on the halfway line so I made my point.

“At that stage, I think I was the first one to get booked so that showed how the referee was going to officiate the game if he thought I was the worst culprit on the night.”

Hughes also spoke to Durham official Coy about the penalty decision he was adamant City should have been given during the first half for a push on Alex Gilliead.

“I just asked him to look at it again because I felt he made a mistake. But we’ll see.

“I would imagine we’ll get an explanation of what he felt at the time. Irrespective of that, it’s wrong if he tries to defend it.”
