CITY are closing in on their second loan signing of the window.

Mark Hughes confirmed that another new recruit could follow Thierry Nevers.

A deal may be concluded before Saturday but the player would not be involved at Wimbledon.

Hughes said: “We can’t dictate the pace of these things but there’s a hope there may be one extra before the weekend, not necessarily to be available for the game.

“It’s not a guarantee, we might have to be patient. A lot of these deals are determined by the parent club and the agents.

“You just have to go through the process until everything’s in line and you can sign them off.”

Nevers got a late run-out from the bench against Rochdale although Hughes admitted it was “a little bit unfair” to throw him on so soon.

But he is excited from what he has seen from the winger in training - and believes the West Ham flyer can make up for losing Tyreik Wright.

“He’s going to get good game time and I’m sure he’ll push me to play him,” added the City boss.

“He’s got good outright pace, he can go inside or out and wants to score goals.

“He’s not dissimilar to Tyreik and that was obviously the attraction of him. We feel he’s a very similar player to Ty and hopefully he can be as successful for us.”

Hughes has “a little bit” of extra cash to play with in the transfer window after Fiacre Kelleher and Lee Angol both moved on for undisclosed fees.

He could understand Angol’s move to Sutton after struggling to nail down a regular spot this season.

Hughes said: “Lee just felt he wanted to move and take an opportunity that presented itself.

“We know Lee’s a good player. He’s been unfortunate this year and grown a little bit frustrated.

“Cooky (Andy Cook) did so well initially and he’s obviously had to show a level of patience, along with Vadaine (Oliver) as well.

“Unfortunately, when I was thinking about making a decision, he wasn’t available because he injured his ankle.

“I think he just felt it was the right team to pursue a different road. We’ve got good talent at the top of the pitch so I was in a position to allow him to leave.

“I like Lee as a player and a person but it’s a point in his footballing life that he felt he probably needed to move.”

Hughes stressed that more exits will hinge on new faces coming in first.

"It will be dependent on whether or not we get any more in. It's about making sure we're stronger before we allow players to go out."
