MARK Dunning believes the squad revamp will instil a stronger character in the Bulls.

The Odsal coach was frustrated by the number of times that the side failed to respond when up against it during their awful 2022 campaign.

Dunning hopes the off-season overhaul - which has so far seen 12 players come in and 16 leave - will not only freshen up the club but add that durability that was lacking.

“The Championship is a quality competition,” said Dunning. “Sometimes you’ve got to dig in and be really resilient and we weren’t anywhere near that last year.

“That’s also prompted us to recruit in the way we have.

“You don’t have to be late 20s, early 30s to be resilient. Some of our younger people that have been through those experiences last year will be a lot better for it.

“It’s character building for everyone involved.

“Sometimes people will take a challenge and embrace it; while for others, their character doesn’t allow them to do that.

“We’re certainly looking at the people in the building with the character to react and I’m confident that they have got that.

“We’ve signed some quality rugby league players and they all believe they can be part of what we want to do - and that’s get this great club back to where it needs to be by earning the right to do it.”

Dunning has been impressed with the "positive vibe" around pre-season.

"I haven't felt this around the place for a long, long time. The players know it's going to be tough but they've all bought in straight away."
