BRADFORD City Women bowed out of the FA Cup first round on Sunday, just like their male counterparts a week earlier.
But the ladies could probably count themselves unlucky, as Middlesbrough scored a last-gasp winner to beat them 2-1.
The Bantams started brightly, going close twice in the first 15 minutes, but hosts Boro probably edged the first half, and took the lead two minutes before the break.
Amber Rodgers saw her initial shot saved by City's Tiffany Whelan, but the ball came back to Jess Dawson, who rifled home the rebound.
City had their chances to equalise after the break, but were wasteful, getting in good positions but failing to find the target.
Captain Katy Woodcock was booked on the hour mark too, after flooring Dawson as she went through on goal.
The Bantams levelled the game with 18 minutes to go through Jess Watkins, before Boro had a late Rodgers effort cleared off the line.
But the hosts were not to be denied, as Eve Marshall's devilish corner caused chaos in the box, with Simone Laverick bundling home the winner.
Brighouse Town also bowed out in the first round, after a surprise defeat at lower-tier Leeds United.
A decent game with plenty of openings truly sparked into life late on, with Ella Harris' cross inadvertently finding the net to put Brighouse in front with 12 minutes to go.
But a handball at the death gifted Leeds a penalty, which Abbie Brown converted to make the score 1-1.
Neither side could find the breakthrough in extra-time, before a truly bizarre penalty shootout took place.
Brighouse stopper Becky Flaherty and her Leeds counterpart Carrie Simpson were virtually unbeatable in goal, while each side put two penalties off target.
But crucially, Flaherty could only make two saves to Simpson's three, and Leeds' Rebekah Bass was the only player to score from the spot in the shootout, putting Leeds through.
