BRADFORD City Women remain in the relegation zone in Division One of the FA Women's National League North, as they were taught a lesson by old boss Chris Hames.

Hames left the Bantams to join Hull City Ladies over the summer, and he led his new charges to a thumping 6-2 home win over his old side on Sunday.

But the game started brightly for the visitors, teenager Mia Jacobs putting them in front after only 10 minutes.

In the end though, they were blown away by Hull's star striker, who was none other than Hope Knight, who played under Hames for the Bantams last season.

She levelled the scores with a penalty, before netting with a fierce strike 10 minutes before the break to put her side in front.

Knight finished off a wonderful team move to complete her hat-trick, giving mid-table Hull a 3-1 half-time lead.

She smashed an effort home from 25 yards out just after the break to net her fourth of the game, before she finally decided to let someone else have a go.

Katie Thompson netted Hull's second penalty of the afternoon to make it 5-1, with captain Ellie Tanser netting the Tigresses' sixth.

Bantams player-manager Charlotte Stuart netted a consolation goal for her side, but it mattered little on a bruising afternoon for the visitors, who will face Hull again at Horsfall in the FA Women's National League Plate on October 30.

Stuart's side have lost six of their seven league games so far, with their only victory coming at Stockport County on September 4, an afternoon which saw them win 3-2.

City face a crucial league game at Horsfall tomorrow night, as they host rock-bottom Merseyrail, who are only behind the Bantams on goal difference.

Both sides are just two points behind third-bottom Chorley, so would move out of the drop zone with a victory, unless the Lancashire outfit avoid defeat tomorrow at Stockport County.

In the league above, the FA Women's National League Premier Division, Brighouse Town Women were below their best at home to their Derby County counterparts.

A solitary strike with 20 minutes to go from Amy Sims proved the difference, with the 1-0 win seeing Derby jump up to fifth.

Brighouse are currently fourth-bottom in ninth place, with just six points from their first seven league games.

They face an almighty task if they are get any points from their next game tomorrow night too, as they play host to league leaders Burnley, who are unbeaten with five wins and two draws from their seven games so far.

Meanwhile, Brig have just been drawn away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Women's National League Cup on October 30.
