CONOR Sellars insists City’s management duo have done their job in securing a comfortable League Two finish.
But he admits the current slump heading into tomorrow’s finale at Morecambe has presented a tough challenge for himself and Mark Trueman.
The Bantams are without a win in their last six games as they face a home side who are in the shake-up for a first promotion in their history.
Sellars said: “You go through sticky patches throughout your coaching development but on this scale it’s a little bit different.
“It’s difficult because it’s a results-driven business.
“Our aim was to avoid relegation and we did that really early on. Anything from that was a bonus and we’re comfortable at the end of the season.
“We’d have been absolutely over the moon to be in the play-offs.
“That was miles away when we first took over. We got to a point when we did think about it but unfortunately lost our form.
“It’s been something we can learn from. The good and the bad experiences are pivotal moving forward for me and Mark.
“We share the ambitions of the club and Ryan (Sparks) to push forward. We want to improve different areas so we can get better performances all over the pitch.”
City have picked up only one point from a possible 18 to drop out of contention. But Sellars expects the players – several of whom have deals up at the end of the season - to be in the right mindset for a positive finish.
“These players have all got different situations but even those in-contract can suddenly find themselves not in people’s plans,” he added.
“What we want to see is players who are passionate in what they do. They must have those personal standards and pride and, once that whistle goes, are ready to battle and fight and give everything.
“We came in to do a job to avoid relegation. We’ve done that and we’re just looking to build momentum to next season.
“Long-term we’ve got to build something and, given time over the summer, try and improve areas of the club to be a much better side.
“That will put us under a bit more pressure next season being able to bring more players in and having more time to work with them.”
Morecambe will go up automatically if they win and Bolton or Cambridge slip up. Sellars anticipates a fierce contest with so much at stake for the hosts.
Sellars said: “Derek Adams has done a fantastic job there, nobody can take that away from him.
“They are going to come for us. It’s going to be really intense on their part.
“There’s no bigger motivation for them than to get promoted. We’re expecting blood and thunder.”
