Mick Potter believes his future could finally be resolved this week and says he is confident the Bulls will retain their Super League status.
Potter has been working without pay since being made redundant at the beginning of July but the change of ownership, which could be officially ratified ahead of Saturday’s trip to Catalan Dragons, could yet see him reinstated.
“I’ve spoken to the club just about the team and the bigger picture but I haven’t spoken to them about what I’m doing personally,” said Potter.
“I think that’s going to happen this week. I think there’s a meeting being arranged.
“It’s possibly looking okay but I don’t know what they want me to do so I’ll just keep looking.”
Potter has put out feelers for jobs in his native Australia but says he has had no contact from either New Zealand Warriors or Sydney Roosters, who recently sacked their coaches, and insists his first choice would be to stay at Odsal under the new regime.
“I quite enjoy doing what I do and there are not too many opportunities to do this sort of job,” he said.
“But it’s been a long-running saga, for different reasons, and there are other things to look at. I’ll just wait and see what happens this week.”
In addition to waiting for the club to be re-admitted to the RFL, the Bulls face a mini-licensing process involving leading teams from the Championship but Potter believes it would be unrealistic to promote a club at such short notice.
“I can’t see how the other clubs are in a better position now than they were 12 or 18 months ago,” he said.
“Let’s hope we know something before we go to Catalan.”
As exclusively revealed in yesterday’s T&A, half-back Ben Jeffries has announced he is to retire from full-time rugby league and return to Australia to become a coal miner while prop forward Tom Burgess is joining brothers Sam, Luke and George at South Sydney from 2013.
There are another 15 players out of contract and set to move on regardless of whether the Bulls play in Super League or not.
Bradford will be without loose forward Jamie Langley against Catalan, who picked up a groin injury in last Saturday’s 70-6 defeat by Hull, and will give fitness tests tomorrow to centre Chev Walker (rib), hooker Heath L’Estrange (hamstring) and centre Karl Pryce (rib) but second rower John Bateman is set to return from a shoulder injury.
