Hull FC coach Peter Gentle is looking for a change in attitude at Odsal tonight after his side were “embarrassed” by bottom side Widnes last time out.

A fortnight ago the Black and Whites were stuffed 42-16 in what marked their lowest point of the season to date.

They lie sixth in the Stobart Super League table and will contest the play-offs but Gentle is demanding a response to their horror show at the Stobart Stadium.

He said: “We embarrassed everybody involved with the club with our performance against Widnes, whether that was the supporters, the administration staff or the players who didn’t play in the game.

“We now need to get a bit of excitement back into the squad.

“The business end of the season is upon us now - we just have a couple of games left and then the play-offs.

“The players are desperate to prove they are much better than they showed in our last match.”

Hull’s line was breached eight times against the Vikings, and Gentle branded the display “disgraceful and the most inept performance I have seen for a long time”.

The former Wests Tigers and Australia assistant coach says his side face a challenge tonight to match the desire of the Bulls, who are bidding to record a sixth straight home win.

“From our last game, there was a lot of things that had to change but mainly our attitude and especially in defence,” said Gentle.

“That’s what Bradford have at the moment - they have a good attitude and a desire to defend comes on the back of that.

“The challenge for us is to match that attitude and enter the game with some enthusiasm of our own.

“It’s important to get out there and show a real determination and excitement to show what we can do ahead of the play-offs.

“We’ve tidied up and tinkered with a few things at training this week and it’s looked good, so we’ve got some enthusiasm back and we want that to stick around for the rest of the year.”
