Shaun Ainscough has spoken of his relief at getting paid and set his sights on a long-awaited try away from Odsal at Huddersfield on Sunday.
The in-form winger and the rest of the Bulls squad received their monthly wages yesterday after initial fears that they would not.
Monies were released by the Rugby Football League to administrator Brendan Guilfoyle to allow players’ wages to be met following an early panic.
The delay sparked a furious verbal volley from players’ union chief executive Ernie Benbow, although Guilfoyle insisted it was a “non-story”.
Ainscough, 22, said: “I looked at my bank account yesterday morning and saw I’d not been paid.
“I joked on Twitter that I’d be having cornflakes for tea, then my partner Lauren tweeted back that we’d run out of milk!
“Joking aside, I normally do the big food shop on the 14th of every month, so to see my wages in my bank account later in the day was a massive relief.
“My missus only works part-time so I’m the main bread-winner and she’s probably been fretting about things more than me.
“It is hard work when you are constantly worrying about whether you will get paid. But you just have to try and put a brave face on and pretend you’re not bothered.
“The delay and not knowing what was happening yesterday was just typical of the way things have been handled in the last few weeks.
“As players we’re always the last to know what’s happening. But we’ve been paid now and that’s the most important thing.”
Ainscough, meanwhile, has crossed the whitewash ten times this season but all have been scored on home soil.
He has touched down three times in the last two games and admits he would love to break his away duck at Huddersfield, a game which French referee Thierry Alibert will take charge of.
Ainscough, one of 17 players out of contract at the end of the year, is currently keeping Elliot Kear out of the side and has formed an impressive partnership with Michael Platt .
“All my tries have been at Odsal so I definitely need an away try before the end of the season,” said the popular Wiganer.
“It would be good to get a try at Huddersfield on Sunday – it would be even better if it was the winning try.
“I’m just chuffed to be getting a regular spot and getting a regular partnership going with Platty.
“I just have to keep performing every week now to keep my spot and ensure Mick (Potter) has got no reasons to drop me.
“If I’m doing my job and what I’ve been told to do, then he’s got no excuse.”
Ainscough admits the Bulls can ill afford any slip-ups in their remaining three Super League games if they are to claim a top-eight finish.
“We need at least two wins from our last three games, maybe even three,” he said.
“Hull KR are ahead of us on points difference and Wakefield are creeping up behind us too.
“We might even have to win all three because we don’t know what the other teams are going to do.”
