James Donaldson believes his performance in Sunday’s thumping win at Dewsbury laid down an emphatic marker to Bulls coach Mick Potter.
The Cumbrian forward was outstanding after coming off the bench in the 42-16 victory, his work-rate and skill illuminating the seven-try victory and earning him rich praise from Potter.
Donaldson’s display certainly served as a timely reminder of his talent as he gears up for a pivotal campaign.
He returned to action after a serious knee injury in April last year but never quite managed to establish himself in Potter’s side on a regular basis.
Now, as he enters the final year of his contract, the 20-year-old knows how he performs could prove crucial in deciding his future.
Donaldson said: “I knew I had to bring something to the game at Dewsbury.
“It’s getting closer to the start of the season now and I had to do something to put me in contention.
“There are big numbers at the club this year and you have to fight for every little bit to get your spot in this team.”
