Jarrod Sammut reckons the competition for places at Odsal will ensure Bulls fans see the best of him next season.
The unorthodox Aussie half-back has joined Bradford on a one-year deal from Crusaders following the Welsh club’s demise.
Although stand-off is his preferred position, Sammut’s versatility provides Mick Potter with the option of deploying him at full back, in the centres or even hooker.
While the Bulls coach remains open-minded as to Sammut’s best position, he has no doubts about the natural ability that he will bring to the club.
Potter recently hailed Sammut’s ‘X-factor’ as a key weapon in the team’s attacking armoury next term.
Sammut, for his part, is relishing the challenge of securing a regular starting berth, with the likes of Ben Jeffries, Kyle Briggs and fellow new recruit Luke Gale providing stiff competition in the halves.
“Versatility is always good to have but as a player you would like to have one set position,” said 24-year-old Sammut.
“It also comes down to the interchange and if you can play a handful of positions it can be beneficial not only to yourself but also the team and the club.
“Fortunately enough, I fit that criteria. I’m a five-eighth and I’ve grown up playing No 6 all my junior life pretty much.
“I’ve played a bit of full back here, seven there and I’ve had a spell at hooker, but I prefer No 6. However, at the end of the day it comes down to what’s best for the team. “ Asked about the competition from the likes of Gale, Briggs and Jeffries, Sammut reasoned: “It’s always good to have a number of players going for certain positions.
“It brings out the best in everybody and that subsequently benefits the team and that’s what you want.
“At the end of the day, if you miss out because you are underperforming, or someone is slightly ahead of you, then you know you have something to work on. That’s not a bad position to be in.”
Meanwhile, Keith Lulia and Manase Manuokafoa have had their visa applications approved.
Lulia is due to marry later this month and arrive in Bradford before the end of the year, while Manuokafoa could join the squad as early as next week.
