Highly-rated rookie Jordan Aitchison admits he simply could not turn down the opportunity to join the Bulls.

The boyhood Bradford fan has joined the club’s Academy on a one-year part-time contract after learning his trade first with the Keighley Cubs and then in the Cougars’ scholarship system.

Aitchison, from East Morton near Keighley, is also studying for a BTEC Level Three in sport development, fitness and coaching at Craven College in Skipton.

The 18-year-old stand-off said: “I couldn’t turn down Bradford because I have supported them since I started playing, plus my dad used to play for Bradford Colts and Bradford Police boys.

“At the moment my studying fits in well with my rugby because the training is three times during the week and once at the weekend.

“I will be playing for the under-20s side this year and my main aim is to work with the high-quality coaches at the Bulls to improve my game.

“I want to help the Bulls to be successful as a winning team and to earn a new contract at the end of the year.

“I would love to be able to sign a full-time contract at Bradford – it’s something I have wanted since I first started watching rugby league.”

Aitchison, who counts Australia legend Darren Lockyer and Wigan full back Sam Tomkins among his idols, can play wing and full back but insisted: “In my opinion I’m a stand-off.”

Bradford head of youth development Paul Medley concurs. He said: “We were short of halves last season but we are hoping Jordan can come in and fill the void at stand-off.

“I know Keighley rate him highly and were sad to lose him but hopefully he can kick on in the system here at Bradford.”
