Jarrod Sammut was due to land in the UK today, with Mick Potter predicting his “X-factor” will give the Bulls a potent attacking threat in 2012.
The unorthodox Aussie playmaker, 24, signed a one-year deal with Bradford in the wake of the demise of Welsh outfit Crusaders.
Having returned to England from Down Under, Sammut is set to link up with Potter’s squad tomorrow for their two-day training camp at RAF Linton-on-Ouse near York.
Although ostensibly a half-back, Sammut’s versatility provides Potter with the option of also playing him at full back, in the centres or even hooker next season.
While the Bulls boss remains open-minded as to Sammut’s best position, he has no doubts about the natural ability that he will bring to the club.
“Jarrod Sammut has that X-factor,” said Potter.
“Where will we play him? We will decide that on a week to week basis, but he can play anywhere from 1 to 9 and is a real livewire.
“That gives us scope to mix things up a bit.
“If you’re not doing the same things all the time then teams can’t read your play so much.
“I don’t think Jarrod knows at times what he’s going to do until he gets the ball in his hand, which can be a good thing.
“Him being a little bit flamboyant at the right time could benefit us and we’re looking forward to having him on board.”
Fellow new recruit Elliot Kear, who has joined Sammut in heading to Bradford from Crusaders, and Craig Kopczak will team up with the Bulls squad at RAF Linton-on-Ouse tomorrow.
The Wales duo will then be given a fortnight off to recover from their impressive exploits for Iestyn Harris’s side in the Gillette Four Nations.
Meanwhile, imposing Aussie centre Adrian Purtell, signed from Penrith Panthers, will arrive in the UK at the weekend and is expected to begin pre-season training with Bradford on Monday.
