Mick Potter will run the rule over his players during pre-season before appointing the Bulls skipper for the 2012 campaign.

The club captaincy remains vacant after long-serving prop Andy Lynch ended a seven-year association at Bradford to join Hull FC on a two-year deal.

Hooker Heath L’Estrange is the outstanding choice to land the armband given his talismanic influence on Potter’s side.

Other potential candidates include fellow rake Matt Diskin and senior pack men such as Jamie Langley and Olivier Elima.

Yet assistant coach Francis Cummins insists the club are open-minded and that a decision will be made after assessing the individual qualities of players during pre-season.

The Bulls will undertake a series of activities before the new season kicks off, with a number of short training exercises pencilled in at places such as RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.

Cummins said: “I think we are waiting for the characters to come to the fore and we will see that in the coming weeks.

“We plan to do some activities but we already know who the leaders are.

“Is there going to be one standing out in the next few weeks? I think that’s what we’ll find out and Mick will then make a decision.”
