The Bulls’ injury outlook is getting brighter by the day.

Despite a crowded treatment room at their Tong training base throughout pre-season, the omens look good ahead of the new campaign.

Dave Halley is likely to be the only first-team player still sidelined by the time Super League rolls round in mid-February.

Although Halley has made good progress following knee reconstruction surgery, Bradford’s opener against arch-rivals Leeds on February 13 will come just too soon for the fleet-footed winger.

“There may only be one or two who are unavailable for the opening game against Leeds,” said head coach Mick Potter.

“Dave Halley is the furthest away at the moment but he’s progressing well and shouldn’t miss too much of the season.”

New arrival Matt Diskin and prop Nick Scruton are both getting stuck into rehabilitation work after hernia operations earlier in the winter.

The pair are a few weeks away from a return to full training but could play a part in the Bulls’ final pre-season fixture against Wakefield on January 30.

The news is even more encouraging for young pair Tom Olbison and Steve Crossley, who should be back in action within a fortnight.

“Matt Diskin and Nick Scruton are both progressing well and we’re happy they’re getting through the work we’ve given them,” said Potter.

“Their load has been upped and there has been no flare-up with either injury, so they shouldn’t be too far away. We’re going to assess them again this week.

“Olbison and Crossley are probably aiming for a couple of weeks and they’re both looking promising at the minute.”

Despite missing this Sunday’s pre-season opener against Halifax, James Donaldson returned to full-contact training earlier this week and should be available for the remainder of the Bulls’ trial games.
