Lee St Hilaire insists his recent transition from Bulls boss to assistant coach has been seamless.
The former Huddersfield and Wakefield coach spent a brief spell in the Odsal hot-seat this year before making way for Mick Potter last month.
Put in caretaker charge of the Bulls following Steve McNamara’s departure in July, St Hilaire oversaw the final six games of last season but has had no problem returning to the background.
“It’s been seamless,” he said. “It was a tough jump for me last year but there have been no problems coming back down.
“Mick has been very good in the way he’s done it.
“He hasn’t just walked in and said ‘I’m here’. He’s slowly slotted in and he’s got a presence about him that commands respect.
“I’ve slipped back into a role that I like, even though I’m looking to be a head coach at some point in my career.”
St Hilaire was forced to shoulder a heavy burden during his spell as acting head coach, having started the season as the Bulls’ sole assistant coach.
But, since Potter’s arrival, he has been joined on the staff by new assistant Francis Cummins – an appointment that has instantly improved operations behind the scenes.
St Hilaire said: “I did have to put in a lot of work last year but it’s not something I’d moan about because I’ve enjoyed it.
“The hours are still there but it’s important not to mistake activity for achievement. You might be doing the long hours but not getting stuff done.
“We’ve become very time efficient and are managing our roles well. I’m still working at home, which is a bit of a pain for the wife, but she’s been around me long enough now to know that’s what I want to do.”
Although they are all working with each other for the first time, the Bulls’ coaching trio have quickly developed a tight relationship.
St Hilaire added: “Because of the way Mick’s built the squad and his coaching staff, we complement each other.
“Everyone brings something different so it’s nice to be able to watch Franny take some stuff and vice versa.
“We’ve all been given our own jobs to do by Mick and that’s good. It’s early days but everything’s been moving along nicely.
“We’re all learning off each other and it’s good relationship. There’s nobody trying to out-do each other, we’re all on a good par and we’ve become good friends quickly, which is important in a job.”
