Being a supporter can be a frustrating experience.
You can go to the matches, chant your heart out and buy the merchandise but in the end, there’s little you can do to influence your team’s success – or so most people think.
After their side’s least successful Super League campaign so far, a group of Bulls fans grew unhappy with this kind of fatalism and decided that they wanted to do something positive for their team.
This is how supporters’ trust BullBuilder was born.
The trust looked at the success of other such groups, which had helped nurture significant developments in their clubs’ junior and academy set-ups.
This seemed like an excellent area on which to focus, so BullBuilder have set about recruiting members to support the club by investing in youth players.
BullBuilder have also already started to make a contribution, by agreeing to send the academy squad on a team-building event. Expect more news of this shortly.
The club, of course, are also making their best efforts to attract, develop and retain young talent, as shown recently by the recruitment of 11 highly-rated juniors.
BullBuilder will support this in every way possible but it is important to realise that the trust are completely separate and independent from the club, with no agenda other than to give support.
This can come in a number of ways. Bulls fans can help by joining the trust, by subscribing a small amount to help fund their efforts, by offering skills, expertise or just effort – or even by standing for office when elections are held later in the year.
In the meantime, BullBuilder will be holding further events, where you can meet the players and fellow supporters. Most importantly, the trust will give fans a chance to play their part in building a stronger Bradford Bulls.
