Bulls rookie Vinny Finigan is still coming to terms with a whirlwind couple of weeks but won’t let that stop him causing a storm in Super League.
The 20-year-old winger impressed on his senior debut, scoring two tries during last week’s 30-26 defeat to Salford to conclude a hectic fortnight for both player and club.
Finigan had only begun full-time training a week previously and seemed unflapped by the upheaval that had surrounded former coach Steve McNamara’s departure.
“I’ve only been training full-time for a couple of weeks but obviously I’ve got a part-time job as well, so I’ve just been doing half and half,” he said.
"I was told the day before in training that I'd be playing. I just tried to stay focused and get into the game.
"It came as a surprise but there’s a few injuries so they decided to draft me in. I’m just thankful the coaching staff has given me that opportunity.
“I wouldn’t say it’s been difficult as such. The lads made it easy for me and any little mistakes or things I did wrong, they just fixed me up and kept me going.
“It’s great to be involved and to win man of the match is a bonus for me.
"I want to get as much opportunity as I can to learn from the coaching and take the chance to learn new things.
"There’s no negatives whatsoever. I’m just happy to be here and I’m still taking all this in.
"It’s been a bit mad to be fair but hopefully I’ve proved I can play in the first team and can keep up with them."
Originally a winger, Finigan only converted to full back for the under-20s at the start of the year, yet exuded a natural confidence when deployed there against Salford.
He said: “It’s my first full season at full back and I’ve learned a lot. Obviously there’s still things I need to fix up, which I’m aware of.
"My original position is the wing but me and Stu Reardon swapped and I had a go at full back. I enjoyed every minute of it.
“To be fair, I’m easy. I can switch and play either. I’ll get more ball and more opportunity at full back but I’m happy wherever they put me, as long as I’m on that field.”
