Bulls boss Steve McNamara has reiterated his commitment to the club amid fresh rumours he has been interviewed for the vacant England coaching role.

Assistant to previous national team coach Tony Smith for the past three years, McNamara is rumoured to be among several candidates shortlisted by the Rugby Football League.

Former Wigan star Denis Betts and Super League coaches Brian McDermott (Harlequins) and Richard Agar (Hull FC) are the other names linked with the role.

But McNamara remains fully focused on his duties at Grattan Stadium as his side attempt to build on their current eighth place in Super League.

He said: “I enjoyed my time as the assistant coach for the previous three years but there’s absolutely nothing to say.

“I’m completely happy being Bulls coach and really happy with what we’re doing. It’s not an issue and it’s not a subject at all for me at this moment in time.”

The RFL appear set to appoint a full-time British coach, while also bringing in an experienced overseas candidate in a mentoring role.

Betts has emerged as a surprise contender, having been out of the game since 2005.

Currently on the backroom staff at rugby union side Gloucester, Betts enjoyed a short spell as Wigan head coach before stepping aside for the appointment of Ian Millward.

The new coach is set to be unveiled after Easter and will take charge ahead of the mid-season international against France at Leigh.
