The Bulls intend to become their own worst critics in a bid to stop being their own worst enemies.

Any positives from defeat at Warrington were initially swept to one side as the players underwent a harsh examination of their own failings.

Having put themselves in a position to win at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, Bradford threw it all away, giving up an 8-6 half-time lead to lose 33-8 thanks to a late flurry of tries.

It was a game surrendered rather than lost and Wayne Godwin warned that has to stop.

“We were getting on a roll and were completing,” said Godwin.

“It was just unforced errors in the second half. The balls were there to be caught but we made it hard for ourselves, we didn’t get in the arm-wrestle and we let them back in the game.

“We did a lot of dumb stuff and it’s hit us hard.

“In the first half we made some chances. We didn’t have many good ball sets but every time we got down there we caused problems.

“In the second half we started well and then just went off the boil and you can’t afford to do that.

“It feels like we’ve had the wind knocked out of us.

“We were going into the game full of confidence and thought it would be a lot closer than it turned out.

“We’re not happy with the way we conceded all those late tries. It’s not good enough and it doesn’t meet the standards we’ve set this year.

“We need to be hard on ourselves if we want to do anything this year and go places.

“We’re a quality side but we didn’t show that in the second half.

“We showed glimpses in the first half but we did too much defending all game and had limited opportunities in attack. We were very dumb with the ball and we invited pressure.”

Friday’s opponents Hull FC are in a similar position.

They too were beaten heavily by a top-two side, losing 48-24 at Wigan, and Godwin expects a backlash from his former club.

He said: “I’m sure we’re going to get a lot of criticism after that but we’ll bounce back.

“It’s good that we’ve got a short turnaround. We’ve got Hull away, which will be a tough contest after they got beaten in the manner they did against Wigan.

“It’s going to be a massive game.”
