Mike Worrincy today admitted “blasé” Bulls totally under-estimated Celtic Crusaders.
Bradford bombed 30-24 to become the first side to lose to the Super League strugglers on Sunday.
All the talk beforehand was that they wouldn’t get complacent ahead of the Odsal showdown as Crusaders battled to end their duck.
But second-rower Worrincy conceded they did just that and were made to pay a heavy price with the embarrassing result.
“We thought it was going to be a walk in the park,” he said, “and it wasn’t.
“We were real flat. It was one of those days where we didn’t all turn up and I think we took Celtic for granted.
“We watched the video yesterday and looked at where we went wrong.
“We just didn’t run hard enough as forwards. We seemed to be blasé.”
The one-paced Bulls pack laboured all afternoon and struggled to make any headway against the committed Welsh outfit.
They got bashed in the tackle, and Worrincy conceded: “Some-times we decided to take it in tough and then other times we just didn’t.
“That catches up with you. We weren’t making enough metres.
“It was just one of those days you want to forget and as a Bradford player you don’t want to be losing games like that. You want to be winning and beating these sides. It’s a tough one.
“We have to hold our hands up and admit we didn’t do well enough on the day.
“We have to go out and put it right this week.”
But Worrincy understands why fans are fast losing patience with the side.
They have come up with similar excuses all season after awful displays against the likes of Wigan, Catalans and Warrington .
They have maddened supporters after producing stellar performances to stun table-topping St Helens and champions Leeds Rhinos only to lose in abysmal circumstances like at the weekend. “It’s making me think about things,” added the ex-Harlequins player.
“I’m sick of losing. I don’t want to be in this position. I came here to Bradford to win games.
“Steve (McNamara) is not happy with us and he’s every reason not to be as we didn’t perform the way we should.
“We can’t be up one week, then down the other; we have to get consistency. We have to show the fans what we’re going to do. It’s no good saying it.
“We’ve said a lot this year and I’m not really a man of words I’m a man of actions and I just want to get out there against Salford on Friday and correct what we did so wrong against Celtic.”
Worrincy, 23, was one of the few Bulls players to emerge with any credit from the Celtic catastrophe.
He made some powerful carries and chalked up his sixth try in as many games hitting another Ben Jeffries pass.
“It’s a good combination between me and Ben at the moment,” he said.
“It’s really easy running off his shoulder. He tells me where to run and I just run there as hard as I can and I seem to be getting over.”
- Jamie Langley has received a warning letter from the RFL after applying undue pressure on the shoulder of Celtic player Neil Budworth.
