Upbeat Wayne Godwin refuses to get down by his broken leg.
The Bulls hooker faces a long lay-off after fracturing his tibia against Wigan on Saturday night.
He got crumpled under Warriors man-mountain Feka Paleaaesina while trying to tackle the massive prop and former team-mate at the JJB.
But Godwin could afford a laugh today, saying: “Of all the people!
“I really think if it had been anyone else on the pitch my leg just wouldn’t have snapped!”
He added: “It’s just one of those things, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What can you do? There’s nothing anyone can do about breaks, they just happen and I’m staying positive.”
A specialist has told the player there’s no reason he cannot be back in action within three months, and he said: “I had good news on Tuesday.
“I’m house-bound at the moment. It was the weight-bearing tibia which I fractured so I’ve a long pot on right up to my hip.
“I had it X-rayed though and the bones have lined up fine so there’s no need for an operation.
“That’s great. When you have those rods inserted you have to have them out eventually and that can be a problem but this is a clean break and they’re not required.
“The specialist said I’d have to do something real bad to displace it now so I’m staying house-bound for the next couple of weeks. I don’t want to risk anything.”
Although disappointed at missing a large chunk of the season, Godwin is looking at the impact he can make when he does return, hopefully in early June.
“It is only a break. It seems daft saying that but some people can be out for a year with ligament damage,” said the former Hull FC rake known as Wagga.
“There’ll be a lot of games left when I get back and I can still play a big part for us this season.
“I knew I’d done it straight away. I heard it crack and so did Morro.
“Obviously, I was gutted at the time but the lads have brought me around and I’ve got my head sorted now.”
Godwin – usually spotted bouncing around the club’s training ground – is currently glued to his sofa.
“It is tough as I am normally really active,” he said.
“Now I’m just constantly watching DVDs and on Facebook.
“I live with my best mate and he’s been my nursemaid.
“I’m going to have to put an ad out for a proper one though cos he doesn’t look that great in his uniform!
“I’ve had overwhelming support from everyone at the club and all the lads too.
“They’ve been unbelievable, coming to see me, looking out for me and I’ve had some awesome calls.
“When I’m able to, I’ll get back into training, start doing upper-body weights and stuff like that but play my part off the field as well. I’ll keep the lads buzzing.”
In the meantime, boss Steve McNamara must now work out who’s going to fill the sizeable void left by the 26 year-old’s absence, with no obvious hooker off the bench available.
