Mike Worrincy today pledged to make sure the Bulls don’t miss their crocked World Cup duo.
Bradford tackle Huddersfield Giants without England man Jamie Langley and fellow second-rower Samoan David Solomona tomorrow night following the club’s early- season injury drama.
Ordinarily, such news could start alarm bells ringing but in Worrincy the Bulls have a ready-made replacement eager to step up to the plate.
He was a frustrated spectator during the opening-day draw with Hull KR, when both his colleagues suffered dislocated shoulders.
Worrincy had been restricted to 18th man duty that afternoon having narrowly missed the selection cut.
But the former Harlequins player now gets a taste of the action and has a point to prove to boss Steve McNamara.
“I’m looking forward to getting in there, doing my work and hopefully convincing him to keep me in for the weeks to come,” he said.
“Langers isn’t out for too long but Sol’s going to be missing for a while.
“Hopefully they’ll both recover quickly but I’m sure with Matt James back as well he can do a job. I know that’s what I intend to do.”
The Bulls will face their traditional forward battle against Giants’ physical pack in the Super League derby, Keith Mason, Darrell Griffin and Paul Jackson providing the visitors’ usual ballast. But McNamara’s awesome forwards ripped into Rovers and totally dominated them a fortnight ago with an impressive performance.
Sam Burgess, Nick Scruton and Glenn Morrison were in fearsome mood and Worrincy admitted: “Our forwards were relentless.
“It shows what we can do and intend to do in the season ahead.
“Now I’m looking forward to getting into that mix as well, into the heat of it all, and add my own sixpence worth.”
With the postponement at former club Quins, disappointment at being overlooked for Hull KR and no fixture last weekend, Worrincy has had to bide his time for a Bradford debut.
He will come up against the man he replaced at Grattan Stadium – hard-working Ireland international Simon Finnigan who joined Giants after a highly-productive campaign with Bradford last year.
Worrincy, 23, said: “It’s my first Super League game for the Bulls and first at Odsal.
“I want to enjoy it but also stay relaxed while I’m out there.
“I don’t want to be too pumped up and try to do things that aren’t on. I’ll be smart and look to do my stuff.
“Huddersfield have started really well. Nathan Brown has got them playing some decent rugby and they’re going to be a hard team to beat this year.
“But it’s all about what you do on the night and there’s nothing stopping us from going out there and getting a victory. This is what we’re working towards.”
