Positive Simon Finnigan today vowed nothing will get in the way of making his Bulls career a success.

The new signing saw his debut come to a premature end, limping off with a groin strain in Sunday's friendly against Wigan.

Back-rower Finnigan, who has joined from Salford, could be sidelined for the next fortnight but isn't getting downhearted.

"It's not too bad and it should be right for the start of Super League," he said.

"It was just very frustrating though. After having a shoulder operation at the end of last season it meant I was joining the club injured and now after my first game I'm injured as well.

"It feels like all I've been since I've been at Bradford is injured so it isn't the start I'd been looking for!

"Hopefully this is the last little niggle."

The former Widnes player already faces a tough battle, with Jamie Langley, Glenn Morrison, David Solomona, Matt Cook and Chris Nero all challenging for back-row places.

But he got a start in the second row at the weekend and contributed plenty of tackling in his first spell before pulling up soon after the break.

"I'd just come back on for Dave Solomona after he got carried off and felt something go in the first tackle," Finnigan explained.

"I've never done a groin before so I wasn't sure what it was. I tried to stay on and run it off but it was no good.

"The physio doesn't reckon it's too bad though which is the main thing."

The 26-year-old knows he has to make the most of every opportunity with competition so hot.

"I just want to get out and play," said Finnigan.

"That's why I was looking forward to the Wigan game so much; it was my first chance but it didn't really go to plan.

"If I do get a chance I've got to take it. If you don't, someone else will. That's the risk."

With Solomona facing at least six weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury, an opening has already appeared.

"Someone else will get the opportunity now but it's up to me to impress and get in front of the rest," added the Aussie.

"I'm backing myself to do well here but players always back themselves; it's whether you do it on the pitch. That's what will come through in the end.

"I need to get injury free and get going."
