It's been a dramatic year for Wakefield and their charismatic boss John Kear.

The last time they headed to Grattan Stadium they faced the very real threat of relegation but now they are thinking about play-off glory.

Kear recalls: "I took over the reigns here 12 months ago when we had six games remaining and were cast adrift, five points behind Cas.

"You had to put £12 on to win £1 for us staying in Super League. It was that bad.

"If we lost at Bradford that night we were down. That's how desperate it was. But we pulled off one of the most famous victories in Super League history. Now, 12 months on, there's six games to go again but people aren't talking about us as relegation candidates, they're saying potential play-off contenders instead.

"That's due to the hard work from everyone here, from the chairman and chief executive to the dinner ladies.

"We're going to Odsal with a different agenda this time - but it's a game that's equally as important."

Amazingly, Wakefield could narrow the gap to third-place Bradford to just three points if they win and they have already humbled Saints, Wigan and Leeds. But Kear warned: "This season we've beaten everyone apart from Bradford - twice - and Huddersfield - three times.

"That means we're capable of beating anyone but also that others are capable of beating us. We only have to remember our Hull KR loss to remind us of that. Bradford will be like a wounded animal and despite coming in on on the back of two losses will still remain favourites.

"But we're full of confidence, playing particularly well and had a good month winning three from four. The only defeat was by a solitary point at Huddersfield so we're heading there confident."
