Bulls enforcer Andy Lynch has targeted former front-row colleague Adam Watene as the man to stop if they are going to overcome dangerous Wakefield.

The pair were team-mates at Odsal last season but Watene left having played just four games for the Bulls.

The likes of Joe Vagana, Stuart Fielden and Lynch barred his path to the first team and the former Castleford man was shunted out.

He has since progressed rapidly with the Wildcats though and developed into one of the competition's form props.

Lynch goes head-to-head with the Cook Islander at the weekend and admitted: "He's been their stand-out player this year.

"When Adam's not played, Wakey have struggled and it's no coincidence. We need to contain him on Sunday.

"At Bradford, we never really saw him play. He didn't get too many games but got the chance at Wakefield and has come into his own. He's proved his worth and is a strong front-rower.

"Richard Moore has impressed too and it's vital we get on top of those guys."

The last time the two sides met at Grattan Stadium, in the penultimate game of last season, Wakefield pulled off a miraculous victory to give themselves a stay of execution in the fight against the drop.

They went on to avoid relegation and arrive at the weekend in a much better state, having soared into the play-off reckoning this term.

They won at Leeds last month and also defeated Wigan to demonstrate impressive credentials, picking up five victories in their previous seven outings.

"John Kear has done a really good job there, getting them playing really well together," conceded Lynch.

"There's class from one to 17 at Wakefield now. This fixture's totally different to last year and we can't think back to then.

"Wakey will be wanting to get a win to move further into the play-off reckoning, now there's no danger of relegation.

"They're in the top six for a reason and not far behind us, so we need to be on our game."

Great Britain prop Lynch, in towering form during the Carnegie Challenge Cup defeat against St Helens, acknowledges the Bulls have their own agenda to meet.

"It was disappointing last week and we need to get straight back to winning ways," he said.

"There's six games to go but we're not looking too far ahead. We've got three games and then a rest (Wembley weekend). They are the ones we're targeting now, starting with Wakefield on Sunday."
