ETHAN Ryan is ready to take out his frustrations on Oldham when he returns to the Bulls line-up this weekend.
After a troublesome ankle injury ruled the Bradford-born winger/centre out of the losses to Featherstone and Rochdale, the 21-year-old says he is fit and raring to go against the Roughyeds.
And, with the Bulls ten points adrift of their nearest Championship rivals, Ryan’s return comes at the perfect time for his home-town club.
“Against Featherstone and Rochdale it was really frustrating not being out there,” he told the T&A.
“I’d played every game this year and to miss games because of a bit of fluid on my ankle is pretty annoying.
“Obviously, I need to put that behind me now – I’m back and ready to go.
“I haven’t been able to run or get out on the field, so Thursday was my first session back and I was pretty excited, like a little kid out there. I was just charging around chucking the ball about and it felt really good.”
Explaining the reason for his injury lay-off, Ryan continued: “I got a knock on my ankle against Dewsbury which went really swollen and had a lot of bruising on it.
“So I went for an X-ray and an MRI scan to see what had happened and there were no breaks.
“The MRI scan showed that a bit of fat had come away from the bone and a big pocket of fluid in there, so that was why it was so swollen.
“I had it drained on Thursday and quite a lot of fluid came out of it so we’ve just been compressing it and getting it ready for the weekend.
“Unless it flares back up with loads of fluid then I can see me returning this weekend, which will be great.”
With ten points to make up on the Bulls' relegation rivals, Ryan is hopeful that his return can help halt their nine-game losing run in the Championship.
He added: “It’s been a tough few weeks, no doubt about that, so hopefully this weekend we can put a complete performance together and be consistent throughout the game rather than just in parts.
“That’s been our aim for the week and we’ve been looking to get our heads down, train well and be ready to put on a good performance on Sunday.
“We know how important this game is for us – not that the other games haven’t been. This is the point where we must pick up a win, and if we don’t it’s not looking good for us at all.
“One win could change everything. All we need is that little bit of confidence, we’re lacking that and need a victory to turn that around.
"We strung a few wins together at the start of the season and you saw what that did. We’re in a bit of a blip at the moment but as soon as we get that one victory, it will trigger something good."
Having come through the junior set-up at Odsal, Ryan knows exactly what the Bulls supporters are going through at the moment – and is hoping to finally give them something to cheer this weekend.
“The fans pay their money to come and see us every week, and I can assure them that we’re giving 100 per cent on the field even though some people might not think it," he said.
“I know they get frustrated as well and they’re desperate for us to push on and get that win, so hopefully we can get a good crowd there on Sunday and pick up that victory.
“We always get good crowds at home, 4,000-plus, which is great to see and they help us massively.
“I’ve been at Bradford all of my professional career and if we can get a couple of wins and get the rolling for the rest of the season it could be big for the club and the whole city.”
