The Bulls have trained their sights on top spot in Super League - despite the looming fear of another points deduction.

Victory over Wigan on Friday night would stretch Steve McNamara's side a massive ten points clear of their fourth-placed opponents, almost guaranteeing a top-three finish with nine rounds still to go.

But the Bulls, written off at the start of the season, are aiming much higher following last week's success over fellow rivals Leeds.

They remain just two points behind long-time front-runners St Helens, who must battle it out with the Rhinos on Friday.

"The way the fixtures are going, it's top spot we're looking at," admitted McNamara.

"It's not about creating a gap with Wigan, it's about performing well and being consistent. If that in turn creates a gap then great but this period now is very important.

"We got one done last week and now we must try and back that up. If we do that, everything looks after itself."

However, privately, the club are bracing themselves for another possible points deduction.

The Rugby Football League are due on Friday to name three clubs who are suspected of infringing the salary cap rules in 2006 and the Bulls, docked two points for similar discrepancies last season, are expected to again be on the list.

It is understood Bradford may be docked four points, with Wigan and St Helens believed to be the other names in the firing line.

All three clubs will get a chance to explain their case before any punishment is handed down - but McNamara is concentrating on matters on the pitch.

Wigan were trounced 32-6 at Wakefield last week, prompting furious boss Brian Noble to really lay into his under-performing players.

McNamara expects some sort of backlash at the JJB Stadium and admitted: "I reckon they'll be like a bear with a sore head and imagine they'll be coming out all guns blazing. It's always very difficult to go there and Wigan will be very, very tough.

"Our result against Leeds was good, and some aspects of the performance too, but the players themselves have been talking a lot about how things can improve and that's always a good thing."

Centre Ben Harris expects to return from minor knee surgery but Iestyn Harris's hamstring is again not 100 per cent and he will sit out on Friday.

With Lesley Vainikolo gone, Kiwi winger Tame Tupou is in line for his full debut, having already scored four tries in three substitute appearances.
