Steve McNamara hailed Lesley Vainikolo as "one in a million" after the departing Bulls star inspired a memorable victory over Leeds.

The Volcano' is now on his way to Gloucester but left in perfect style last night as Bradford crushed their arch-rivals 38-14 at a packed Headingley Carnegie.

The ruthless performance sees them rise above Leeds into second place, level with engage Super League leaders St Helens, but it was Vainikolo's spectacular opening try that set them on the way.

The hero winger danced down the touchline before throwing off two would-be tacklers to burst over for his 149th touchdown in 152 games.

The clinical Bulls never looked back on an emotional evening and McNamara said: "It was a fantastic effort. He's one in a million is Les. We'll miss him and he'll miss us.

"It was a great way to start the game and got us on the front foot but I'm really pleased for Les that he got that try. It was a worthy effort, top class and typical of him. Long may it continue in rugby union."

The Tongan giant was hoisted high on the shoulders of team-mates Jamie Langley and James Evans at the end to receive a deafening ovation from the travelling fans in a 22,000 capacity crowd.

McNamara said: "Personally, I find it astounding the send-off this bloke got. At any other club, a player saying he's leaving to rugby union halfway through season would have been hung, drawn and quartered!

"But this shows the respect he has got. The fans have given him a great send off and it's amazing."

Vainikolo added: "It's always good to score a try against Leeds, it's one of my favourites, and I got goose bumps all over at the final whistle when all the boys came up.

"It has been emotional and there's no words to describe it."

Vainikolo said he would be "back 150 per cent" if the Bulls took up the option to recall him from Gloucester for the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final but that possibility has yet to be decided.

Bradford scored six tries to gain sweet revenge for their controversial defeat against Leeds at the Millenn-ium Stadium but McNamara insisted: "In terms of the effect on this match, what happened in Cardiff wasn't relevant.

"We put in a very good performance. We came up with some errors but on the back of trying to play some good football and it was really pleasing."
