Richie Hawkyard is looking to make the most of his dream shot with the Bulls.
The part-time player earned a surprise debut when he featured against Huddersfield Giants on Friday night.
Hawkyard is a plasterer by day and only previously turned out for the club's Senior Academy side.
But with injuries currently blighting the Bulls, he got a chance at Super League and held his own in the 36-12 defeat, handling the pressure well in the pivotal role of scrum half.
"I was a bit gobsmacked," recalled Hawkyard, who hails from Huddersfield.
"I didn't expect to be playing really, never mind starting, but obviously I was delighted when Steve (McNamara) told me at training on Thursday.
"It was a great night for me, especially playing against my home-town club on my debut.
"Obviously it was just the result that wasn't the right one."
Livewire Hawkyard, who showed his confidence by wearing peach-coloured boots in the live televised clash, added: "I was okay with the pace of the game but it was definitely more physical than anything I've ever experienced.
"I was a bit nervous but just made sure I got an early carry and felt all right after that."
The 21-year-old didn't have time to sweat about his impending debut - he had to go to work on Friday!
"It helped keep my mind of things," he said. "I wasn't thinking about the game because I was busy working, so the build-up wasn't too bad.
"I work for Kirklees Council as a plasterer but it was okay on Friday as we'd been driving around arranging appointments and stuff. We were done by three and then it was off to the match.
"All my work mates were pleased for me. They're all into their rugby but most of them are Huddersfield fans, so I'll be getting a bit of stick this week!"
Hawkyard, who is expected to play against Harlequins on Sunday, is now looking to prove to boss Steve McNamara he is worth a professional deal.
"My goal for the year was to hopefully win a full-time contract," he explained.
"I never thought I'd actually get a chance this season so it's come a bit sooner than expected but obviously it's what I want to do.
"Steve said it was tough for me going in at the deep end like that but he was pleased with how I went on.
"I'm looking to get Thursday and Friday off work this week, so we'll see what happens."
