LAST weekend’s win over Halifax at the Summer Bash was an enjoyable experience – and probably the toughest game I’ve played in all year.

It was nip and tuck, set for set, and both sides defended really well. Halifax were strong defensively but I thought we were too, especially in that first half, but in the second period too when we had to scramble to protect our line.

It’s very pleasing for Jimmy as head coach and us as players to see that kind of collective desire.

It was quite a tight pitch, so expansive rugby was not possible, and Halifax came out and had a real dig. Credit to them for that and they certainly looked a very good side.

Overall I enjoyed the concept of playing in the Summer Bash at Blackpool – and I’m sure our fans enjoyed it too. Well over half the crowd at Bloomfield Road was supporting the Bulls and as a player that’s what you love to see.

The event was a good one and I would like to see it continue next year. A whole round of Championship fixtures are televised live on Sky and it’s a great opportunity to promote rugby league at this level.

It’s London Broncos this weekend and I watched some of their first half against Sheffield at the Summer Bash.

They were looking pretty good and, as the Middle Eights are coming into focus, it’s time for us to step up again.

Playing London in the capital will be tough but we had a good win against them at Odsal a few weeks ago and need to reproduce that kind of tenacity in defence.

I know a few of the London boys – Matt Garside, Ray Nasso and Ben Farrar.

I played with Farrar at Parramatta and he’s a good centre who we need to watch.

They have got a couple of exciting young halves in Tom Gilmore and Oscar Thomas, who showed their class against Sheffield last week.

To beat the Eagles 46-6 was no mean feat so we need to be on top of our game this weekend.

Hopefully, with another massive Bulls following behind us, we can get the result we need.

I just want to keep playing my part in helping us to get to where we need to be.
