RUGBY league legend Garry Schofield is organising a charity golf day to honour the memory of former Bulls stalwart Debbie Charlton, who died earlier this year.

Debbie spent many years working at Bradford before spells in football at Guiseley and FC Halifax Town.

The Garry Schofield-Debbie Charlton Golf Classic will be held at Normanton Golf Club on May 26 next year and will become an annual event.

It is being organised by Schofield and Debbie's sister Nicky and funds raised will go to St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds.

"Debbie contributed so much to rugby league and her legacy should never be forgotten," said Schofield.

"She started out at Leeds, where I worked alongside her in the commercial department, and she went on to make a massive contribution to the Bradford Bulls.

"Debbie's sister Nicky and I are going to be holding a Golf Day at Normanton next year called the Garry Schofield-Debbie Charlton Golf Classic.

"I'm putting my name to it to hopefully attract people to the event and to honour the memory of Debbie, who was a great friend of mine.

"I'm sure there will be a lot of people who want to play in this golf day because Debbie was so popular throughout rugby league and beyond.

"I've known her for 26 years when she worked at Leeds and I've hosted events for her at the Bradford Bulls when she needed me.

"We had a great relationship and if Debbie Charlton called you to do a job, you did it.

"She would always look after you and if everyone in rugby league was like Debbie and Danny Jones, we would never talk negatively about the game, I can assure you."
