HAVING scored six tries in the Bulls’ last five games, it is fair to say that Danny Williams is enjoying his rugby right now.
Head coach Jimmy Lowes is not short of options on the wing with Williams, Etu Uaisele, Chris Ulugia, Adam Henry and Ryan Shaw all having played there so far this term.
But Williams’ recent run of try-scoring form is making him pretty much indispensable.
The former Leeds Rhinos man has not only been scoring tries but he has created a few as well and been solid in defence.
Some of his scores have been crucial, such as the dramatic late try that turned the game in Bradford’s favour at Batley last month and the effort which kick-started the second-half fightback against Halifax on Good Friday.
Williams has the coveted knack of finishing things off in the left corner and it is a habit he wants to continue.
“I’ve just got to keep putting myself in the position to finish these opportunities,” said Williams.
“That’s all I can do. If I keep putting myself in that position then hopefully the tries will keep coming my way.
“I’ve really been looking after my body and tried to stay as fresh as possible.
“You do need to push yourself to a certain level but there are times when you just need to step back and look after your body.
“Going into the last few games, I’ve been feeling really good and that’s what I want to keep on doing.”
Williams joined the Bulls last July on an initial one-month loan from Salford Red Devils.
He settled quickly and ended up staying until the end of the season before joining the club on a permanent two-year deal.
Williams enjoys life under Lowes and admits he has on eye on the forthcoming Challenge Cup fifth-round tie at home to Hull KR.
The match will provide the Bulls with an acid test as to how they might compare to Super League teams ahead of the Super Eights later this year.
Rovers are being tipped to emerge as one of the most-improved sides in the top flight this term following a major overhaul which saw them make over a dozen new signings during the off-season.
Chris Chester’s side outclassed bitter rivals Hull FC in the Humberside derby last Thursday but Williams is up for the challenge of facing the Robins at Odsal on Sunday, April 19.
He added: “Jimmy is helping me with my performances week in and week out, so if can keep building on that when it comes to facing teams such as Hull KR then that’s what counts.
“We’ve got strength in depth and that can only be a good thing as it keeps everyone in the team at the moment on their toes.
“It will be good for the boys to test ourselves against a Super League squad.
“Me personally, I think we’re a Super League team so these are the types of sides we should playing.
“Hull KR have had a couple of good wins recently but it’s about what we do and it should be a great atmosphere because both the Hull clubs have great followings.
“I had a month’s loan at Hull FC when I was young and that’s the standard we need to be playing at really. I think we’ve got a good chance against them.”
