JIMMY Lowes is demanding an improvement from the Bulls after branding last week’s win over Workington as “not a good performance by any stretch of the imagination.”
Bradford destroyed their Championship rivals 74-6 in the Challenge Cup fourth round and now face the Cumbrian outfit again in league combat on Sunday.
Despite running in 13 tries against Phil Veivers’ part-timers, head coach Lowes wants more from his men – much more.
Preparing to face the same opposition for the second time in eight days, Lowes said: “We’re approaching the game in the same manner and hopefully we can produce a better performance than we did last week.
“We did some things that weren’t that good, I have to say, and we have focused on that more than anything this week.
“It wasn’t a good performance by any stretch of the imagination, so we’ll certainly be on our toes again this week for Sunday’s game.
“I was happy that we ran some points in and we had to be patient early on, even though we were a bit loose in certain areas.
“There were other areas I wasn’t happy with, but I wasn’t completely miserable after the game.
“You strive for perfection and until you get that then you are never content.
“You see the boys sometimes in the dressing room afterwards and, even though they put a load of points on Workington, they tend to be hard on themselves because they might not have played that well.
“That is because you are always striving for a ten out of ten game and there are certainly one or two areas that we certainly need to work on.”
Lowes believes it is “ridiculous” that his side have to play twice in four days over Easter and will rotate his squad as the Bulls seek to build momentum ahead of next month’s Challenge Cup fifth-round tie at home to Hull KR.
He added: “We’re not interested in Hull KR because we’ve four games to play before we face them.
“We’re not even thinking about it – I’m just worried about Workington.
“We’ve got a busy schedule over Easter, so I would imagine we will use our full squad over this next couple of weeks.”
Meanwhile, the Bulls have announced a four-figure sponsorship deal with local property firm Robert Watts, which will see their name on advertising billboards at Odsal.
