RYAN Shaw believes the Bulls are certainties for promotion as he anxiously waits to discover whether he has kept his place in the team.

The Cumbrian, signed from Warrington during the winter, scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked eight goals from full back in the 56-6 demolition of Hunslet.

But his overall performance did not entirely satisfy head coach Jimmy Lowes, who could now bring Harry Siejka back into the team at scrum half and restore Jake Mullaney to full back.

Having claimed a highly impressive haul of 40 points in the past two games, Shaw is hoping to stay in position for Sunday’s trip to Batley.

The 22-year-old from Barrow said: “I definitely want to keep my spot at full back and hopefully I will, but it’s Jimmy’s decision and we’ve got a strong team.

“I’m enjoying it there at the moment and it’s a pretty easy system to play in, especially with players such as Gasky (Lee Gaskell) and Jake (Mullaney).

“They are creating gaps for me to support up the middle and are brilliant to play with because I can sniff out opportunities and I could probably have had a few more tries last week.

“Yes, I’ve got a few things to work on, such as bringing the ball back a little bit better, but overall I was pleased with how I played against Hunslet.

“In terms of my kicking, I didn’t strike all of them that well but I still managed to convert nearly all the tries.

“I probably do about an hour’s kicking practice every week.

“I honestly couldn’t tell you what my best position is but I’ll play anywhere – wing, centre or full back.”

Following his hat-trick against Hunslet, Shaw says he has no targets in mind for how many tries he would like to score this season.

But he is more certain about how he rates the Bulls' prospects of returning to Super League at the first attempt.

Shaw added: “As long as we’re winning and the team is performing then I’ll be happy.

“We’ve still got things to work on but we’re up there and I think we’re definitely going to win promotion.”

Meanwhile, Batley have said they are expecting their biggest crowd for 20 years when the Bulls visit Mount Pleasant on Sunday and are urging supporters to arrive in plenty of time.
