STEVE Ferres admits he was “delighted” to have been handed a home draw in the Challenge Cup fourth round as the Bulls prepare to host Workington twice in eight days.
The Cumbrians, coached by former Bulls assistant Phil Veivers, will head to Odsal on Sunday, March 22 in the Cup before returning seven days later for a Championship fixture.
Former Bulls stars Leon Pryce and Jamie Peacock made the draw at the Provident Stadium last night and managing director Ferres said: “We’re delighted to have a home draw and now face Workington in back-to-back fixtures here at Odsal.
“By the time we play them in the league fixture, we should know each other very well.
“They will be tough opposition and Phil Veivers will have them fired up, for sure, so we would much rather have them at home than away for obvious reasons.
“It can be very difficult up at Workington and we’ll expect a tough tie, but with us being at home we should be pretty confident of making the next round.
“As the grounds get a bit harder, I think we’ll start to play a more attractive brand of rugby that the supporters will enjoy.”
Leigh, who top the Championship after four straight wins, host London Broncos in the stand-out tie of the round.
London, relegated with the Bulls last season, have made a slow start to the current campaign and coach Joey Grima last week quit the club.
The winners of the fourth-round ties will progress to the fifth round, when Hull FC, Hull KR, Salford Red Devils and Wakefield – the clubs which finished the 2014 Super League season in ninth to 12th positions – enter the competition.
All fourth round games will be played over the weekend of March 21 and March 22.
Full fourth round draw: North Wales Crusaders v Doncaster; Dewsbury Rams v Newcastle Thunder; Featherstone Lions v York City Knights; Barrow Raiders v Halifax; Bradford Bulls v Workington Town; Normanton Knights v Batley Bulldogs; Leigh Miners Rangers v Oxford; Swinton Lions v Rochdale Hornets; Sheffield Eagles v Oldham; Whitehaven v Featherstone Rovers; Leigh Centurions v London Broncos; University of Gloucestershire All Golds v Hunslet Hawks.
