KARL Harrison believes this week’s military mind games at an Essex army camp will leave the Bulls well primed for a promotion assault.
Jimmy Lowes’ men have returned from their two-day stay at the Carver Barracks in Saffron Walden where they partook in various team-based activities.
Some were based on physical exertion and others on problem-solving, which forced them to use their brains rather than brawn.
The first day also culminated in a training session alongside Cambridge University's rugby league outfit.
Assistant coach Harrison said: “It has been a good trip. The first day saw the squad split up into five separate teams and set different tasks which were all mind-related and got the boys to think.
“There was a little bit of physical activity in there as well but it was mostly about thought process and communication as the boys worked together to complete each of their tasks.
“The weather was has been cold but everyone has been in good spirits.
“It’s different and is light-hearted but the boys have also been on top behaviour.
“There was a tough session yesterday organised by the Army’s personal training instructors but again, it was something different.
“We have been very rugby-based since October and now, just over two weeks until the new season, it’s a bit of rugby relief, shall we say, until we start focusing on the Leigh game.”
The Bulls also had a video review of Sunday’s defeat to Leeds during the camp and Harrison reckons the squad will reap the benefits of their stay at the British Army base.
The former Great Britain prop added jokingly: “The military camps I’ve been on before have been more physical.
“I once went to Catterick with Parachute Regiment but this one has been more about thinking and using your brain, which is what we need as we’re not the brightest bunch in the league!”
